Travel to and from the airport

Let us know if you need help getting you and your luggage to and from the airport, DTW (Detroit Metro Airport, in Romulus, Michigan).

If you provide your own transportation, an Uber from Detroit’s airport (in Romulus) to our AirBnB and venue (in the center of Detroit) costs an estimated between $35 and $55, one-way (20 miles) as of August 2026.

Session Venues

For the fourth time, we will stay in the same large rental house. We’ll send the address to those who register. All our sessions will be there.

Sleeping arrangements

We have the same large AirBnB. If you’re a registered attendee, you’ll be emailed the address of the AirBnB before you leave for Detroit. Each attendee will be assigned a place to sleep.

The house sleeps 20 people, although its maximum occupancy to be present on-site (not staying overnight) is 50 people.

If you are a registered attendee, you should have received a form asking for your sleeping preferences, to determine whether you get a room with a door or sleep behind a privacy screen, or to be the only person sleeping in a room, or whether you get a bed, a bunkbed, a couch, or an air mattress behind a privacy screen.

After using that to assign beds, we’ll post images to the #general channel on the Fluidity Forum Discord of a map of everyone’s sleeping arrangements.

Check-in is Thursday, September 17 at 3 p.m., and check-out is Monday, September 21 at 11 a.m. Participants may sleep there Sunday night! If you don’t wish to be rushed out the door of the AirBnB no later than 11 on Monday morning, you may sleep Sunday night at Matt Arnold’s house 1.5 miles from the venue in the North End neighborhood, upon request.

Food

Meals will be served buffet-style. We are planning a mix of hearty, home-style dishes designed to be shared together.

Gluten-free and vegetarian options will be available at each meal. Some dishes may also happen to be free of dairy or nuts, but only gluten-free and vegetarian accommodations are guaranteed.

Continental breakfast foods, snacks, and beverages (such as hard-boiled eggs and yogurt) will be self-serve and available throughout the day.

An espresso machine will be brought to the main AirBnB during the weekend for attendees to use.

BYOB. There’s a liquor store across the street.

Session AV

Presenters can hook up their laptop to the projector with HDMI, but we have adapters so that it can accept Display Port or USB-C. Let us know if you need to borrow a laptop; we are likely to be able to arrange it by advance request.

There’s a whiteboard in the closet at the AirBnB, although not a wall-sized whiteboard like one might find in a classroom. It’s about three feet, if I recall correctly.

We provide a tiny blackboard which is intended to be presented with the serving of food, like a quaint cafe, but you may use it in your session if it would help.
